Dear Sisters and Brothers,
Well, here we go again. I am honored to once more serve Hillcrest Chapter as Worthy Matron. Bro. John and I have served together in the East before. We look forward to a wonderful year. We know that we have a great group of officers.
During the year we will be emphasizing membership. Not only do we need to get new members, we must try to get our members who live in the area to start attending again. We also need to visit our sister chapters in the district more. We only have four chapters, and we are really like one big chapter. There are times when we would have difficulty in opening our chapter if it were not for members of other chapters in our district helping out. We will also be doing something different in our meetings. We will be learning a little about our order, our chapter history, and specifically, learning something about each of our star points. As you know, our star points are heroines from the Bible. Their history is not fully defined in our lectures. Hopefully, we will be having some outings, which means for this bunch, going somewhere to eat. More on that later.
We congratulate Bro. Larry Brantzeg in being chosen to serve as District Deputy next year. With Sis. Donna by his side we know they will do an outstanding job.
For the past two years, Sis Donna and Bro. Larry Brantzeg have done a wonderful job as Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron of this chapter. We owe them a great deal of gratitude for the tireless energy they displayed in leading our chapter.
We were saddened during the past year to lose one of our devoted members. Sis. Ruby Hulon departed this life early on Thanksgiving morning. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
At this writing, there are those in our district that are in need of prayer. They are Sis. Gertrude Lyons (Beuclare chapter) and Sis Shelby Muller (Hillcrest chapter), and Sis Anna Nunnery (Beuclare chapter) Sis Gertrude is in Tuomey hospital with a blood clot in one of her lungs. Sis. Shelby Muller will have surgery for a double bypass. She is in Palmetto Richland in Columbia. Sis Anna Nunnery is still not fully recovered from her surgery and the problems associated with that.
In closing, may I repeat our motto for the year: “Let us be the first to give a friendly sign, to smile first, to speak first, and if such a thing be necessary, forgive first.”
In Star love and friendship
Metta Holt, Worthy Matron
