The Order of The Eastern Star is the largest fraternal
organization in the world to which both men & women may belong. It is a
Masonic-related fraternal organization dedicated to charity, truth and loving
kindness. This order is comprised of people with deep religious convictions
and spiritual values, open to all faiths except no faith. Although not a part
of the Masonic fraternity, membership is based on a Masonic affiliation or
relationship, a belief in God and a desire to acquire additional knowledge
and for self-improvement. The degrees of the Order of the Eastern Star teach
lessons of fidelity, constancy, loyalty, faith and love. These degrees are
presented in a beautiful ritualistic ceremony designed to not only teach the
lessons, but also to provide insight for future study and understanding.
Dr. Robert Morris introduced the Order in the United
States, in 1850. The Order in North
America comes under the jurisdiction of the General Grand Chapter, organized
in November 1876. The Grand Chapter
of South Carolina oversees this and other subordinate chapters in South
Carolina.
Hillcrest Chapter 263 OES was instituted in 1962 with
Margaret Everett, the Chapter's Mother, as Worthy Matron. Margaret was a life member and an
exemplary example of a true OES member.
The Chapter currently has 67 members.
We are one of four Chapters within
OES District 17. See District
17 button above.
